March 8, 2011Aegis Lightwave Channel Monitors Support Flexible Bandwidth Aegis Lightwave, a company focused exclusively on providing a full suite of optical channel monitoring solutions to the fiber-optic communications industry, announced today the support for flexible bandwidth for next-generation reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexer (ROADM) requirements. More details will be available at OFC/NFOEC 2011 in Booth 2447. ROADM systems are migrating to support a mix of 10G, 40G and 100G transmission which have varying bandwidth requirements. These varying bit rates and modulation formats occupy various channel widths in the optical spectrum. One efficient approach to filling up the transmission bandwidth is to optimize the juxtaposition transmission signals so as to avoid unused segments of the optical spectrum. Optimum positioning of laser center frequencies together with varying channel widths across the transmission spectrum drives additional requirements for flexibility in the channel monitor and in other modules such as the wavelength switch. Channel monitors from Aegis Lightwave now support such flexible channel plans and varying bandwidth requirements. March 7, 2011Aegis Lightwave Introduces Ultra-Compact Channel Monitor Aegis Lightwave, a company focused exclusively on providing best-in-class optical channel monitoring solutions to the fiber-optic communications industry, introduced today the CTM 1350, an ultra-compact 40 x 23 x 9 mm channel monitor, about the size of a thumb drive. The CTM 1350 will be on exhibit at OFC/NFOEC 2011 in Booth 2447. The cost and size of the CTM 1350 is ideal for dense reconfigurable optical add-drop multiplexer (ROADM) line cards that continue to pack more functionality including wavelength switching, optical amplification and channel monitoring in a denser footprint. As ROADM functionality migrates to the edge of the optical network, size and cost become the dominant enabling factors.
